November in the Highlands

Sunday November 17th 2024: Try out five Highland Drams with Dave Sharp at our monthly whisky tasting here at Deacon Brodie’s Whisky Bar in Ottawa.

Join us for an exclusive whisky tasting event that will transport your palate to Scotland’s finest distilleries. This tasting session offers an opportunity to savour a selection of five distinctive whiskies, each chosen to showcase the diversity of Scotland’s whisky regions and unique distillery techniques. Here’s a sneak peek at the lineup:

1. Gordon & MacPhail Glen Grant 11

Known for their single malts, Gordon & MacPhail bring us Glen Grant 11, part of their Discovery Series. This 11-year-old whisky captures the essence of Speyside, with soft notes of orchard fruits and honey, balanced with a hint of spice. A perfect starting dram, it’s smooth and inviting, offering a welcoming introduction to Speyside whisky.

2. Glenfiddich Orchard Experiment

From Glenfiddich’s experimental series, the Orchard Experiment is an innovative take on Scotch. Finished in casks that previously held Somerset Pomona (an apple-based spirit), this whisky is lively with fresh apple, pear, and subtle floral notes. A delightful blend of tradition and creativity, it’s a whisky that could charm newcomers and connoisseurs alike.

3. Glen Moray Heritage 15-Year-Old

Next on the list, Glen Moray Heritage15-Year-Old embodies the elegance of traditional whisky-making. This Speyside single malt combines ex-bourbon and sherry cask influences, creating layers of dark chocolate, dried fruit, and spice. Rich, complex, and yet incredibly approachable, it’s a wonderful representation of Glen Moray’s craftsmanship.

4. Loch Lomond 14-Year-Old

A dram that reflects the Loch Lomond distillery’s versatility, the 14-Year-Old has been aged aged in three varieties of American Oak casks, delivering a balanced flavour with hints of citrus, vanilla, and gentle smoke. The whisky is finished in French Limousin oak casks, giving it a distinct spiced character.

5. Aberlour A’bunadh

Finally, Aberlour A’bunadh, an iconic cask-strength expression that celebrates the robust, full-bodied side of Speyside. Aged exclusively in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, it bursts with bold flavours of dark chocolate, dried fruits, and warm spices. A favourite among enthusiasts, it offers an intense, lasting impression.
