From Sea Breeze to Sherry Cask

Join us on Sunday, May 18th at 4:00 PM for an unforgettable whisky tasting at Deacon Brodies Whisky Bar in Ottawa, hosted once again by the ever-knowledgeable David Sharp.

This month, we’re setting sail on a flavourful voyage that travels from the maritime malts of Scotland’s island distilleries to a sherry-rich Speyside finish. Whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this curated lineup offers a brilliant balance of coastal character, elegant sweetness, and robust complexity.

As always, light snacks will be provided and each whisky will be paired with complimentary chocolates to enhance your tasting experience.

Here’s what’s being poured:

1. Glen Scotia 10 Year Old

View Bottle

A lively Campbeltown malt matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon barrels, this dram is packed with tropical fruits, sea spray, and a signature maritime minerality. A youthful whisky that punches above its age with zesty citrus and sweet vanilla notes.

2. Isle of Harris – The Hearach Single Malt

The first release from the Isle of Harris Distillery, The Hearach is a historic dram with a modern heart. Crafted from heavily peated malt and matured in a combination of bourbon, Oloroso, and Fino sherry casks, this whisky carries notes of toasted oak, spice, and gentle smoke, wrapped in a silky island texture.

3. Glenglassaugh Sandend

Named after the golden bay beside the distillery, this Highland coastal malt is matured in bourbon, sherry, and manzanilla casks. Expect rich waves of banana, salted caramel, and tropical fruit, kissed with a touch of sea breeze.

4. Balblair 12 Year Old

A timeless Highland whisky, Balblair 12 is gentle and structured, offering honeyed layers of apples, ginger, and warm spices. Matured in American oak and ex-bourbon casks, it’s a comforting dram with elegant depth.

5. The GlenAllachie 15 Year Old

We close our journey with this sherry cask standout from Speyside. Master blender Billy Walker’s creation boasts a rich profile of dark chocolate, raisins, and sweet spices, showcasing the full-bodied beauty of Spanish oak maturation.
